Mark Hammond and Pete Pullen successfully defended a Corbin, KY nursing home alleged to have abused and neglected an elderly dementia resident. Plaintiff alleged that negligent nursing home care and insufficient staff resulted in 13 falls and 10 pressure sores during a 15-month nursing home residency. Hammond and Pullen defended by submitting that resident’s advanced/end-stage dementia prevented fall interventions from being successful and nursing home staff healed 7 of 10 pressure sores that developed in woman that refused to eat due to end-stage dementia. Plaintiff sought approximately $61 million in damages. The jury returned in approximately 45 minutes with a defense verdict.
